About the Guyana Pharmacists’ Association

Aims and Objectives

  1. To serve Humanity.
  2. To take all reasonable steps, particularly through public education to  protect members of the public from all forms of fraud, deception and exploitation that may be carried out by wholesalers, retailers and others engaged in the pharmaceutical business, and by qualified and unqualified persons engaged in the delivery of health care to members of the public.
  3. To make to the government of Guyana, the Pharmacy Council of Guyana and any other Statutory Body responsible for the regulation of the practice of pharmacy, such recommendations as to measures that may protect and advance the trade of pharmaceuticals, as the Association may see fit.
  4. To identify, plan and execute at least one community-based project involving the application of the knowledge of pharmacy during a period ending December 31 each year, ensuring that the execution of the project is of such standard that it may reasonably earn credit from the public.
  5. To encourage and maintain unity, dignity and harmony among pharmacists, pharmacy assistants, pharmacy interns and pharmacy students.
  6. To establish and publish a code of ethics to assist in the promotion of discipline among pharmacists and pharmacy assistants.
  7. To promote, maintain and advance a high standard in the education of pharmacists and the practice of pharmacy.
  8. To hold regular lectures, demonstrations, seminars, conferences, workshops and other activities to enable members to become aware of the current advances in the pharmaceutical sciences and in the application of these in their practice.
  9. To co-operate with Government agencies in the eradication of illicit trading in pharmaceuticals and to assist in the eradication of ‘Drug Abuse’ in Guyana.
  10. To assist in the promotion and maintenance of pharmaceutical education at the University of Guyana and /or any other recognized institution of pharmacy education.
  11. To take all necessary steps to ensure that members, whether engaged as proprietors or employees in the private sector or in the Government service, maintain the highest possible standard of professional services that the public may reasonably expect of them.
  12. To take all reasonable steps to ensure that the legal and professional rights and privileges of members are not infringed upon and that members are adequately remunerated for the services they perform in their professional activities.
  13. To seek affiliation with the co-operation of kindred organizations in the Caribbean, Great Britain and other commonwealth countries, the United States of America, Latin America and such other countries as the Association may, from time to time, decide.
  14. To provide assistance to members considered by the Executive Committee as deserving and to other kindred organizations considered by the Executive Committee as being in urgent need, provided that the relevant resources of the Association are then adequate.
  15. To promote and establish branches of the Association in such areas of Guyana as the Association may from time to time decide.
  16. To participate in any National Health Care Delivery Plan put forward by the Government from time to time.
